Loops, unstable redirects, or conflicting location chains.
Failure types
- 404, 403, 500, timeout, DNS failure, redirect loop, and blocked resource states.
- Mixed-content issues on HTTPS pages that still load insecure image URLs.
- Empty src, malformed URLs, invalid data URIs, and content-type mismatches.
Coverage
- Checks standard image tags, CSS background-image references, and srcset candidates.
- Stores where the issue was found so the broken asset can be fixed in context.
- Supports retry status in the report for unstable third-party assets.
Issue summary
- Counts by HTTP failure, timeout, redirect, mixed-content, and malformed URL categories.
- Broken-image rate relative to the total discovered set.
- Grouped by page so the report works for QA and content workflows.

FAQ
Questions users ask before implementation
Can the checker validate background images too?
Yes. The plan is built around validating both standard image tags and CSS background-image references.
Why report mixed content separately?
An image can respond successfully and still be a problem if an HTTPS page references it over HTTP, so that gets its own issue class.
Are unstable third-party images handled?
The report keeps retry state visible so transient CDN failures do not get mixed together with deterministic 404s.
